The International and Interim Congress of Iranian Neurosurgeons and Spine Surgeons met in Rasht on 20–22 October 2026 at Rasht Central Hall. Prof. Guive Sharifi joined colleagues for scientific sessions and delivered a lecture on advanced endoscopic transsphenoidal techniques in the treatment of acromegaly. He thanked Dr Yousefzadeh, Dr Mashouf, and Dr Alijani for hosting the meeting in Gilan.

About the Congress

The interim congress brought neurosurgeons and spine surgeons together in Rasht, the capital of Gilan Province, for three days of lectures, case discussion, and an exhibition of surgical technology. Sessions were held at Rasht Central Hall, with the official programme presented under the banner of the International and Interim Congress of Iranian Neurosurgeons and Spine Surgeons.

The meeting combined cranial and spinal themes. Alongside the scientific hall, industry partners showed cranial reconstruction systems and intraoperative neuromonitoring, including somatosensory and motor evoked potentials.

Endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery for acromegaly

Prof. Guive Sharifi spoke from the main podium on advanced endoscopic transsphenoidal techniques for acromegaly. The endoscopic transnasal, transsphenoidal route is used to reach growth-hormone-secreting pituitary adenomas through the nose, with the aim of removing the tumour while protecting the pituitary gland and the surrounding skull base.

The lecture reviewed current operative approaches in this field. For patients, the practical questions are how the tumour is reached, what recovery involves, and when surgery is considered alongside medical treatment. A recorded excerpt of the talk is included below.

Hosts and colleagues in Gilan

Prof. Sharifi thanked Dr Yousefzadeh, Dr Mashouf, and Dr Alijani for hosting the congress and for the way the meeting was organised. Time with faculty and with his own team — in the auditorium, in front of the congress banner, and on the exhibition floor — sat alongside the scientific programme.

The visit also included the handicrafts and creative-industries hall of Gilan, a reminder of the welcome the province extends to colleagues who travel there for national academic meetings.
